Velvet Goldmine is almost completely without redeeming qualities. Ewan was fantastic as usual. Toni was good. everything else was expendable. even my favorite actor mr. Christian Bale. somebody please explain to me why this has fans at all

I hate Jonathan Rhys Meyers so much. Like, my dislike for him almost reaches Jamie Foxx levels.

I hate Rhys Meyers too glenn. Something about him just rubs me the wrong way and I don't particularly enjoy him as an actor. But Ewan McGregor...I love Ewan McGregor. And his huge...talent.

sounds awesome! and i just forgot my blogger password so i'll have to post as anonymous.

also on velvet goldmine, i'd have to say my favorite parts are with christian bale's character as a teenager/20ish however old he is, listening to pop albums in his room. i think bale was great in that, definitely an overlooked performance.

I find the general hatred of Rhys-Meyers to be fascinating. He's such a cold fish on screen - he doesn't have the warmth of Ewan McGregor and his distance isn't as purely fascinating as Christian Bale's. But there's something about him that makes his quite interesting to watch. He's never the best in film, though.

I look forward to revisiting Goldmine, especially with Nathaniel's sabre rattling re: I'm Not There.

Great idea!

If I'm still motivated to blog after election day I'd love to participate. I think Velvet Goldmine is one of Haynes most undervalued films and it's one of my favorite movies from the '90s.
